Venosa vineyards

CANTINA di VENOSA is among the most renowned wineries in Southern Italy. Established in 1957 by 27 promoting members, it now has 350 members with an area of approximately 800 hectares , the majority in the municipality of Venosa which is the largest producer of Aglianico grapes in the Vulture area. Venosa is a city located north of Basilicata or Lucania and is famous for being the birthplace of Quinto Orazio Flacco, poet of Carpe Diem , and the Madrigalist Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa.

Aglianico del Vulture is a wine with an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections , a delicate aroma of ripe black fruits , an unmistakable, savory and harmonious flavour. A DOCG wine which has over 2000 years of history and which represents the perfect combination between the rich and balanced composition of the soil of volcanic origin ( Vulture is precisely the volcano on whose soil the vine that generates it is grown) and the fortunate climatic exposure of the gentle hills of Venosa.

The systems at its disposal are cutting-edge, but technique, love and care are those of tradition. The careful management of the members in the harvest operations, the selection of the best grapes, the attention in the maceration and fermentation phases, the meticulousness in the refinement phases, in which the Aglianico is transferred to French and Slavonian oak barrels , make you get the superior quality for which it excels. Aglianico was introduced into Italy by the Greeks at the time of the foundation of Cuma or a little later, while the transformation of the name Hellenica into Hellanica and therefore into Aglianico must date back to the end of the 15th century, at the time of the domination of the Aragonese in the Kingdom of Naples . Refinement and delicacy in both taste and aroma distinguish the grapes , which can be harvested from the vine grown on the hilly terrain of Vulture , requirements which have recognized Aglianico del Vulture with the Controlled Designation of Origin .

Add to this the robustness of the alcohol content which is generally above the minimum value (11.5), the total acidity which gives it a fresh and pleasant flavour, and the high glycerin content which makes it soft in taste .
